If you’ve travelled toward Downtown Macon-Bibb from Mercer University Drive, you’ve probably noticed a major change in the scenery. The pedestrian bridge was set into place on April 6, and it connects the Mercer Campus and Downtown to the Tindall Heights neighborhood, the new lofts, and the new retail and hotel development.
The 120,000-pound bridge was a $3 million dollar project paid for with money generated in that area that must be spent in that same area. Eventually, the bridge will have a complex LED lighting system to provide even brighter sights for those who see it.
And while the bridge provides a safe way for people to cross the road, it’s part of an even bigger plan: the Second Street Corridor which is connecting East Macon-Bibb to I-75 through downtown.
