Macon – A man accused of robbing a Macon Pizza Hut in August 2016 pleaded guilty to armed robbery Tuesday just before a jury was set to be selected for his trial.
Reginald Dino Gilmore, 38, of Macon, was sentenced to 18 years in prison without the possibility of parole.
Evidence at trial would have shown:
Gilmore and another man arrived at the Pizza Hut, 5594 Houston Road, just before closing time on Aug. 5, 2016. Gilmore, wearing a hooded shirt and a ball cap, demanded money from the restaurant’s manager at gunpoint. The manager complied and Gilmore left.
A pizza delivery driver followed Gilmore and the other man as they drove to the Magnolia Court Motel, 4739 Houston Road, and relayed information back to the Pizza Hut manager and authorities.
Authorities apprehended Gilmore and a second man, 25-year-old Quayshaun Varqui Adams, at the motel. The manager and pizza delivery driver identified Gilmore as the gunman who’d robbed the restaurant.
Charges still are pending against Adams, and he is presumed innocent unless and until he is proven guilty in a court of law.
Gilmore was convicted of armed robbery in Washington County in 1996.
Speaking after the hearing, District Attorney David Cooke said, “Anyone who threatens workers with violence as they try to earn an honest wage should expect to face serious consequences.”
