Macon – A Macon man pleaded guilty Thursday afternoon to criminal attempt to commit a felony stemming from his attempt to rob Subway, 1433 Eisenhower Parkway, last December.

Michael Dewayne Easley, 38, was sentenced to 25 years, 10 of them in prison. His plea hearing was held in Bibb County Superior Court.

A Subway employee told Bibb County deputies that a man walked into the restaurant just after 9 p.m. on Dec. 8, 2016, and demanded money while holding what appeared to be a gun. The employee refused to give the man money and the man left.

The employee called police and followed the man until shortly before Bibb County deputies arrived. Deputies chased a man matching the suspect’s description to an abandoned house on Harris Street.

Easley was arrested after he was found hiding in a closet at the house. Deputies also found a toy gun in the closet.

Speaking after the hearing, District Attorney David Cooke said, “Even though the weapon was fake, the fear this defendant caused his victim was real. Anyone who threatens violence while committing a crime – even with a toy weapon – should expect to face real consequences.”
