Macon-Bibb County has hired Steven Fulbright as the new Downtown Development Specialist in the Economic & Community Development Department. Fulbright’s primary responsibility will be the management and growth of the Main Street Macon program.

“Steven Fulbright will be a real asset to the Downtown development efforts by incorporating the needs and desires of present and prospective merchants to the master planning efforts currently underway,” says Macon-Bibb Mayor Robert Reichert, who advocates for Downtown to be a walkable, livable hub for the entire community. “Steven will help create a dynamic economic environment where businesses can flourish and people can enjoy a high quality of life.”

“Steven is already well known and respected in Downtown Macon from his work with residents, visitors, small businesses, and non-profits,” says Main Street Macon Board Chair Ben Sapp. “He is well-suited to his new position, and I have no doubt that Main Street Macon will continue to thrive under Steven’s leadership.”

As the Main Street Manager, Fulbright will be the primary point of contact in working with Downtown residents, businesses, and organizations for Macon-Bibb County, acting as an advocate for initiatives that improve the quality of life and expand opportunities for living and working there. He will provide resources and information to Downtown development entities in order to assist in planning and coordinating projects, special events, fundraising initiatives, and volunteer recruitment and management. Fulbright will also assist in working with other organizations on their Downtown events, encouraging a cooperative and collaborative environment.

“I look forward to working more closely with Steven,” says Economic and Community Development Assistant Director Alex Morrison. “His breadth of experience is a great fit for Main Street, as is his infectious love of this community.”

Fulbright joins Macon-Bibb County after 15 years of working in and with organizations in Downtown, including the Hay House Events Coordinator, Visitor Services Coordinator at the Georgia Music Hall of Fame, and Visitor Center Manager at the Macon-Bibb County Convention and Visitors Bureau. In those positions, he has managed staff and volunteers, coordinated small and large events, worked closely with Downtown organizations, and implemented city-wide promotion and education programs.

About the Main Street Macon Program

The Main Street Macon program is the second  Urban Main Street Community in the State of Georgia, and the organization is committed to the economic development and revitalization of Macon’s Central Business District in Downtown. The Main Street Macon program is guided by four committees to help improve, grow, and support Downtown: Organization, Promotions, Design, and Economic Restructuring.

Main Street Macon is dedicated to the revival of the downtown area and neighborhood business districts of Macon-Bibb County. The organization encourages the community to take a fresh look at Macon’s beautiful boulevards and streets located in the heart of the community, and to join their efforts to save historic buildings, revive the commercial core, strengthen local businesses, control community-eroding sprawl, and to foster a sense of place and community life.

Mission: Collaborating to bring life and business to Downtown.

Vision: A revitalized Downtown Macon that is our regions’ commercial and cultural center – maximizing social and economic opportunities for a diverse population, and preserving the neighborhood’s historic urban identity.
