  2. Residents should also be aware that many areas lack critical life-sustaining services and infrastructure.
  3. Local officials may still impose restrictions on re-entry, residents and business owners seeking to return should check for local requirements.

Macon-Bibb County EMA Recommendation & Shelter Update

We are advising residents of the evacuation order being lifted, but are making sure they understand that some of the areas will be without infrastructure and life-sustaining services. Our shelter remains open because we do not want to people to feel like they have to go back to a potentially dangerous situation.

“The people staying with us have entrusted us with their care, and if they were to drive back this afternoon or evening, it could be after dark before they make it home, where they may not be power or water,” says Macon-Bibb EMA Director Spencer Hawkins. “We want to help them have a safe re-entry to their homes and neighborhoods, so the Red Cross, Macon-Bibb County, and partners will continue to provide shelter.”
