The Macon-Bibb County Health Department held its annual Back to School Carnival on July 14 to provide health care and school supplies for children, and resources for their parents. The children could get up to date on their vaccines, get dental and other health screenings, and take part in games and activities to learn about being healthy and safe. In a vendor room, students picked up supplies like backpacks, pencils, notebooks, and more…all to make sure they’re ready to head back to the classroom.
“Immunizations are so important, and we do it year round, but this is our final push to make sure you can enter that first day of school having everything done,” says Health Department Administrator Nancy White. “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Good health means good attendance, good attendance means classroom time for learning- and that is the single most important factor.”
