In a show of support for God’s Power Church of Christ, Macon-Bibb County and the Macon-Bibb Council of Clergy will hold a press conference and prayer vigil on Monday, July 13, at 10:00 a.m. The event will take place at the Church at 1985 Cedar Avenue. This comes after a fire destroyed their building early in the morning on June 23 and is being investigated by the Macon-Bibb County Fire Department, Georgia Fire Marshall, and ATF as an arson.

“The ministers of Macon and their congregations stand with each other and condemn any such attacks, and we must stand together in our time of need and work together each and every day, with acts big and small, to build a better community,” says Reverend Wayne Anthony, Chairman of the Council of Clergy, and Senior Minister of Liberty UMC. “God’s Power Church of Christ was engaged in cleaning up and rebuilding its community when it was destroyed, and we must be there for them, lend them support, and help them get back on their feet.”

The Council of Clergy is calling for their congregations and the community to come together in solidarity and show God’s Power Church of Christ they stand together against such acts. God’s Power Church of Christ is led by Pastor Lillie Powell and Associate Pastor Jeanette Dudley. In attendance will be Macon-Bibb County Commissioners, Mayor Robert Reichert, Sheriff David Davis, Fire Chief Marvin Riggins, members of the Council of Clergy, and the Church’s leadership and congregation.

“We applaud the efforts of churches who are on the frontline in the battle to build a better Macon,” says Reverend Anthony. “Sometimes this means confronting crime, corruption, blight, and neglect, but it is a real need that must be addressed. It is a need that our churches can address.”

About the Council of Clergy
In the new Macon-Bibb County, Mayor Robert Reichert began bringing together area ministers, pastors, and clergy for a monthly luncheon to discuss issues affecting the community and to find ways congregations could support each other.

“An effort is underway to engage the Clergy and Congregations of Macon to “Build A Better City,” says Reverend Wayne Anthony, Chairman of the Council of Clergy, and Senior Minister of Liberty UMC. “Churches are strategically located in every neighborhood and represent every demographic of our city, and many congregations are now involved in cleaning, rebuilding, and improving their communities.”

They have discussed ways to improve our city, including cleaning up neighborhoods through the 5 x 5 Neighborhood Improvement Program, bringing congregations closer together by attending each other’s services, holding community events together, praying on a regular basis for the success of the region, and more.
