FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – From Spectra:

September 26, 2018 (Macon, GA) – Spectra Venue Management, operators of the Macon Coliseum and Macon City Auditorium, is pleased to announce all four days of the GHSA State Basketball Championships will return to the Macon Coliseum in 2019.

Following a one-year absence, the GHSA Basketball Championships returned to the Macon Coliseum in March 2018 after significant renovations and improvements were made to the facility.  Improvements included a new basketball floor, new basketball standards, and new lights.  Funding for the improvements was provided by Macon-Bibb County thanks to the voter-approved Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST).

With continued improvements, GHSA Basketball will return to Macon from March 6-9, 2019 for the championship tournaments.

GHSA Executive Director Dr. Robin Hines said, “We are pleased with the new management and the upgrades at the venue. The events held at the Centreplex in 2018 were very successful and we look forward to the 2019 events.”

Mayor Robert Reichert said, “The State Basketball Championship has been a part of Macon-Bibb for decades, and thanks to the management of Spectra and the people of our community that approved the SPLOST, we were able to bring the game back.”

“We are thrilled to have GHSA State Basketball Championships back in Macon. It’s a great day for Macon-Bibb County and Middle Georgia,” said Spectra General Manager David Aiello. “We look forward to welcoming GHSA staff, athletes, and fans to the Macon Coliseum in March for four days of incredible basketball.  I’d like to specifically thank Mayor Robert Reichert and the Macon-Bibb Commissioners for providing us with the resources to make improvements to the facility.”
