At the Macon-Bibb County Commission Operations & Finance Committee Meeting on Tuesday, January 16, the results of the Fiscal Year 2014 Audit were presented. This audit covered the first six months of the newly, consolidated government, from January 1 – June 30, 2014. The full audit can be read by clicking here.

Mauldin & Jenkins, the outside firm which conducted the audit, it was found to be a clean audit with no findings and no adjustments. According to Miller Edwards with the firm, “This is very impressive for a new government that went through all the changes that came with consolidation.”

This included implementing new public administration software, combining departments through consolidation, creating new processes and procedures, shifting budgets among the departments, and more. All this was done while building the government’s first full-year budget. Another point to be commended was that all departments came in under their budgets for that time period, which helped out in the long run since revenue came in lower than projected.

Mauldin & Jenkins praised the Commission, Administration, and Department Heads for rising to the challenge of consolidation and being good stewards of the public money. The Mayor made sure to recognize the Finance and Budget Teams for their efforts to build a new system, monitor spending, and create a new budget.
