Temperatures in Middle Georgia are expected to reach more than 100 degrees this weekend, and the Macon-Bibb County Emergency Management Agency and the Salvation Army wants to help people remain cool, hydrated, and safe.
The Salvation Army will be opening up their facility at 1955 Broadway as a cooling center this weekend. They will be providing meals, hydration, and activities 24 hours a day during this intense heat. The main number for the center is 478-746-8572.
“We want to open our shelter doors all day so folks and families can retreat from the heat.” says Salvation Army Area Commander Andy Gilliam. “We are here to serve everyone in the community during these extreme situations.”
“Staying cool this weekend is extremely important, and drinking water and staying in air conditioning are your two best ways to accomplish that,” says EMA Director Spencer Hawkins. “Also remember there are lots of places you can go to beat the heat: your local library, Macon-Bibb public pools, Lake Tobesofkee and the Sandy Beach Water Park, Downtown water features at Daisy Park and Cherry Street Plaza, the Ocmulgee River, and more.”
