District 2 Commissioner Larry Schlesinger put on his Rabbi cap to deliver the invocation at the December 4 Macon-Bibb County Commission Meeting. 4H students Thane Nye and Kai Thomas led the crowd in the Pledge of Allegiance.

The Commissioners recognized the Emergency Management Agency and responding emergency partners for their efforts before, during, and after Hurricane Michael.

District 9 Commissioner Al Tillman gave an update on the annual Mayors’ and Commissioners’ Christmas Motorcade. People gave $1175 and donated more than 493 items to help those with mental illness and other disabilities at Central State Hospital.

Agenda Items

Commissioners approved providing $130,000 in federal Community Development Block Grant funds to Rebuilding Macon for minor home repairs for about 65 elderly or disabled low-income homeowners. The board also approved providing $52,000 in CDBG funds to Rebuilding Macon for minor home repairs for elderly or low income homeowners through the Volunteer Youth Program.

The Commission accepted a $25,604 Homeland Security Subgrant from the Department of Homeland Security for Fire Department Equipment. You can see a list of that equipment here:

The board accepted a $12,000 Georgia EMA grant for the Bibb Sheriff’s Office to buy an explosive-detecting dog, named Hugo. They also approved accepting a $3,000 grant for food and care for Hugo.

Commissioners approved amending a contract related to a Local Maintenance Improvement Grant. You can read about the additional repairs here.

The Commission approved repealing and replacing Chapter 4 of the Code relating to regulation of alcoholic beverages. Full details here: 

Commissioners approved transferring $75,000 to Business Development Services in order to hire employees for vacant positions.

The board approved transferring $33,185 to fund the December 4 runoff elections.

The Commission approved a resolution to affirm the responsibility of all individuals to sanctify life and to condemn mass shootings.

The Commission approved the reappointment of Rick Hutto and Kay Gerhardt to the Macon-Bibb County Urban Development Authority Board. They also voted to appoint Charles Richardson to the UDA Board.

The board voted to approve changes to the Macon-Bibb Recreation Department organizational chart.

Commissioners transferred the property at 801 Forsyth Street to the Macon-Bibb Urban Development Authority.
