From District Attorney David Cooke’s Office: District Attorney David Cooke and Macon-Bibb County School-Justice Partnership Coordinator Tajalyn Woodruff were honored during the Macon Bar Association’s annual Law Day program.
Cooke was the recipient of the bar association’s 2019 Lawyer of the Year Award. The award recognizes a lawyer with a minimum of 15 years experience who has a high degree of professional ethics and a reputation within the legal community of having good morals.
In presenting the award, attorney Virgil Adams noted Cooke’s role in forming the Macon-Bibb County School-Justice Partnership, creation of an elder abuse unit and support of local victims services organizations.
Speaking after the ceremony, Cooke said, “It’s an honor to be recognized by my peers for our advocacy in the courtroom and for what we’ve done to get justice for this community. Knowing that this award also recognizes the work we’ve done to keep students in school and out of the courtroom makes it even better.”
Woodruff received the Liberty Bell Award, an honor recognizing efforts to foster a better understanding and respect for the law and courts, the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights and spur a deeper sense of individual responsibility so everyday citizens recognize their duties and rights.
“Tajalyn has done a fantastic job of building bridges, bringing a number of government and community organizations together to help students served by the School-Justice Partnership,” Cooke said. “She is very deserving of this award and recognition.”
Past award recipients from the District Attorney’s Office include:
  • • Assistant District Attorney Sandra Matson, Lawyer of the Year 2017
  • • Officer of Community Engagement Amy Leigh Womack, Liberty Bell Award 2018
