Water tests by Lake Tobesofkee Park Rangers and the Macon Water Authority this weekend confirm that E. Coli levels at the Claystone Beach swimming area have dropped down enough to allow safe swimming. It will be open on Sunday, June 12. The swimming areas at Sandy Beach and Arrowhead Park remain open.
Normal E.Coli levels should be below 190cfu/100ml, and the results from Saturday’s test showed the levels to be 57cfu/100ml. Thursday’s test showed those levels to be as high as 548cfu/100ml.
Elevated levels can occur after rain as pollutants and other bacteria are washed into the lake, including feces from geese, ducks, birds, and other wildlife.
