Abel 2, Inc. (pronounced “able to”), a 501(c)3 nonprofit arts and human services organization is pleased to honor individuals in Macon for their dynamic community involvement, especially their efforts in under-served communities.  Two of the honorees recognized at the Ella Fitzgerald and Natalie Cole tribute concert featuring Songbird Myrna Clayton were: Chief Brenda Thomas, Macon-Bibb County Fire Department Fire Prevention Director, and Ms. Sarita Hill, Executive Director of the Macon-Bibb County Economic Opportunity Council, Inc.

A Macon native, Chief Thomas is now Macon-Bibb County’s first female to earn the rank of Chief Officer. To learn more about Chief Thomas’ service to Macon-Bibb County and her rise through the ranks of the Fire Department, watch this feature video produced by MaconBibbTV.

Sarita Hill is known for creating economic and empowering opportunities for underserved communities. Through her support, numerous jobs have been created and many programs have been implemented to impact the financial bottom line of households.

Having grown up with their own life challenges, these two honorees recognize the untapped potential in under-served communities seeing it first hand through their chosen careers.  Since both of these ladies are huge Jazz and Soul music fans, it is natural that Abel 2 would recognize their efforts in a forum where citizens can embrace them harmoniously!

The tribute concert on September 18 was held at the Historic Douglass Theatre and celebrated the quintessential music legends Ella Fitzgerald and Natalie Cole featuring Songbird Myrna Clayton. Proceeds from the concert will go to educate and expose the rich Jazz and Soul culture in under-served communities.

About Abel 2, Inc.
Abel 2’s mission is to meet the needs of under-served communities through Music and Performing Art. The platform of music creates positive benefits that have an immediate effect on an individual’s disposition and life choices thus providing ways to change one’s circumstances and see possibilities.  Moreover, many in the general community are musically under-served and know very little about America’s music history, especially Jazz and Soul musical history.  Therefore, the opportunity to blend community engagement and musical edu-tainment allow Abel 2’s to fulfill its mission in a memorable way.
