Blue Star & Gold Star Memorials to be unveiled, dedicated

The Federated Garden Clubs of Macon and Macon-Bibb County and will dedicate and unveil a Blue Star Memorial Marker and a Gold Star Memorial Marker in Rosa Parks Square on Saturday, September 17, 2016 with a ceremony beginning at 2:00 p.m. Rosa Parks Square is located directly across Poplar Street from Government Center (700 Poplar Street). This event is open to the public.

Blue Star Memorial Markers are dedicated to honor all who have served, are serving, or will serve in the United States Armed Forces. Gold Star Memorial Markers are dedicated to honor the families whose loved one made the ultimate sacrifice while defending our Freedom.

In attendance at the ceremony will be the National Garden Club’s Blue Star Memorial Marker Chairman Andrea Little, National Gold Star Families President Patti Smith, the family of Medal of Honor Recipient Sgt. Rodney M. Davis, members of the Federated Garden Clubs,  the Garden Club of Georgia, and the Macon-Bibb County Commission. “It is always a special day when we can recognize and honor members of our U.S. Armed Forces who dedicate their lives to keeping our Nation free,” says Jan Thiese with The Federated Garden Clubs of Macon. “While the state of Georgia has about 155 Blue Star Memorial Markers, this Gold Star Memorial Marker will be the first in Georgia.”
