Macon-Bibb County began its focused 5×5 Program in District Four on Monday, August 18, and the focused services will take place until September 19.
“We want to inspire people to help us clean up our entire community, and with the 5×5 Program and its focused services, we can provide a needed boost to help them get started,” says Macon-Bibb Mayor Robert Reichert.
“I’m excited about the spirit and the cooperation of our Macon-Bibb employees to show our communities are more valuable when our neighborhoods are clean and well-maintained,” says District Four Commissioner Mallory Jones. “The 5×5 Program is a chance for us to gain a greater sense of pride in our community.”

About the 5×5 Program
The 5×5 Program began in the City of Macon at the direction of then-Mayor Reichert to enhance and target services in a five block area for five weeks. Along with the targeted services, the City worked to engage the community by asking for assistance on projects and hosting events to build a sense of ownership in the improvement process.

The Program was included in the “Safety and Services in Every Neighborhood” principle of the Mayor’s Strategic Plan. To help focus the work of the City in its final year, the Mayor and staff identified three major areas of focus – day-to-day operations, consolidation, and strategic projects – which were organized under the B.E.S.T.principles:
Build a Sustainable Community.
Educate our Citizens.
Safety and Services in every neighborhood.
Transit and Technology throughout the region.
