Once again, two of the most popular places in our community have been voted as the Best of the Best! In the annual Macon Telegraph competition, which is decided by readers and residents, Historic Rose Hill Cemetery was voted Best Cemetery, and Amerson River Park was voted Best Place to Take Your Kids.
Rose Hill is a historic site featuring several notable people. Gregg and Duane Allman, and Berry Oakley from the Allman Brothers Band are buried there. Also within Rose Hill, there’s a Historic Afrian-American portion, called Oak Ridge, as well as Catholic, Jewish, and Confederate soldier sections. The cemetery was founded in 1840, and is a popular place for people to walk, observe the river, and learn about history.
Amerson River Park, which was recently voted second best park in the country, is 175 acres of green space, walking and biking trails, beautiful overlooks, places to boat and tube in the Ocmulgee River, and more. There’s a versatile and adaptive playground, pavilions for rent, and plenty of places to enjoy the outdoors! You can learn about it on the Amerson River Park website.
