As part of its Blight Remediation Program, Macon-Bibb County will begin a second round of demolitions by tearing down the vacant and dilapidated houses at 782, 806, and 818 Lynmore Avenue. A press conference will be held on Monday, February 13, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. on Lynmore Avenue to signal the start of the demolitions. The Mayor, Commissioners, representatives from SMART, and the Parks & Recreation Department will be at the press conference to talk about how the Blight Remediation Program will improve this neighborhood and the entire community.

In addition to these three houses, 16 other structures will be demolished at: 3283 & 3296 Kingston Court; 4415 Marion Avenue; 4297 Irving Avenue; 2064 & 2070 Sycamore Street; 2065 & 2120 Third Avenue; 3467 & 3473 West Bond Street; and 114 & 115 Emily Street. All 19 structures are expected to be abated and demolished by February 24, and a third round of demolitions is expected to begin in March.

These 19 demolitions are part of seven Blight Remediation Projects: Lynmore Estate Habitat Project (2 blighted structures); Lynmore Avenue SMART Project (7 blighted structures); Emily Street Blight Removal Project (2 blighted structures); West Bond Street Blight Removal Project (2 blighted structures); Kings Park Playground & Community Center Project (2 existing structures); Third Avenue Stabilization Project (2 blighted structures); and Culver Street Commons Project (2 blighted structures).

For the Lynmore Avenue Project, the goal is to build a park for the neighborhood, and the goal for the Kings Park Project is to build a new community center for the neighborhood to use. Renderings of the new park and community center are attached to this email.

 The first round of the Blight Remediation Program tore down 15 structures and was funded with $642,870 from District 1, 2, 4, and 5 funds. It included:

·         The demolition of 13 structures in and acquiring five vacant lots for the Lynmore Estates Habitat Project;

·         Acquiring one property and demolishing a structure for the Lynmore Avenue SMART Project; and

·         Demolishing an abandoned restroom structure for the Hillcrest Park Improvement Project.
